Royal Visit

The Princess Royal, Princess Anne, visited the Farnham Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) in October 2015  in her capacity as president of the RDA and met children from two Farnham schools, William Cobbett and The Abbey, who took part in two riding demonstrations.

For some of the children, it was only the fourth time they had ridden, but they were able to show how to halt, walk on and change direction with their ponies and horses. Some of the older children from The Abbey School were able to demonstrate trotting. At the end of the session, the children lined up on horseback and bowed to Princess Anne. The Princess was then introduced to all the children and presented them with red, white, blue and gold commemorative rosettes. She also chatted to all the volunteers and unveiled a plaque to mark the visit.

Princess Anne was officially greeted by the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire Nigel Atkinson and Mrs Christine Atkinson; the High Sheriff of Hampshire Lady Louisa Portal; the chairman of Hampshire County Council Cllr Jonathan Glen and Mrs Sharon Glen and the chairman of East Hampshire County Council Cllr Tony Muldoon.

RDA is a charity and relies on volunteers and donations to exist. It is currently looking for more volunteers to help give children opportunities and skills that they cannot learn in a classroom.

The Farnham group meets at Inadown Stables, Newton Valence near Selborne, every Friday morning during term time. For more information or to make a donation, you can contact us here.
